Memories of Wally
Memories of Wally

Wally was a memory care resident who was beloved around the facility by staff and other residents. He had one of those spirits that just beamed. He was very dapper and funny and bright. He just had dementia. I would say hello to him, and we would talk a little before I went back to my office. I would always greet him with a warm sing-songy, “Wally!”

On one particular day, I did my normal routine, saw him and sang out, “Wally!” To my amazement, he sang out, “Sabrina!” I was so happy and excited! I was thinking he may have had a breakthrough, or that my interactions had a profound effect on him. I said, “Oh, my gosh, Wally! You remembered my name?” He shot me a beaming smile and shook his head. “No,” he said and…

Pointed to my name tag. 😊
